Interview met Mark Sanchez van Donar
Vraag: can you describe in short something about your life (birthday, hometown, family etc).
Antwoord: I was born January 17,1987 and raised in Tucson, Arizona.I currently live In Boise, Idaho with my wife Tayler Sanchez, We are expecting our first child in May! I have 3 brothers and was fortunate to have both my Mom and Dad growing up.
Vraag: you played for Boise State, how do you look back at these years?
Antwoord: Boise State was a wonderful experience and great university, Tons of players have gone out of there to have great careers playing pro.
Vraag: after college you went to Europe and played for Aris Leeuwarden. How was that period, because the first year outside USA is mostly a hard time for a basketballplayer?
Antwoord: my first year out was actually In Israel, was a complete culture shock and quiet the experience. My first year in Leeuwarden was great! First class organization who takes care of its players and has many great people helping out! Enjoyed it there so much stayed for two years!
Vraag: in Leeuwarden you played with Lance Jeter, how do you feel about that to playing again with him?
Antwoord: playing with Lance was great! He is a special talent who is stronger then mostly every guard and really quick. Knows how to play the game and is unselfish. ultimate competitor who just wants to WIN! Its going to be great to play with one another again, we both have grown as players and have a chance to do something special with the rest of the guys! Really excited about this opportunity to play for a championship!
Vraag: was it difficult to learn the European style of basketball?
Antwoord: learning the style of european basketball is a transition but its a beautiful way to play the game. Share the ball and play TEAM basketball.
Vraag: did you followed Dutch basketball last years?
Antwoord: did follow some old teammates and friends when I could. Had an old teammate in Donar last year (Pryor) So was Happy to see hime win a title!
Vraag: after the first year in The Netherlands you went to Austria. What did you learned in these years and is there a difference between playing in The Netherlands and Austria?
Antwoord: you get to experience different cultures and learn from other players, find out what it takes to win and hopefully become a champion.
Vraag: how came you in contact with Donar? Did you had more offers from other clubs and if “yes” why Donar?
Antwoord: Donar has been a place where Ive always wanted to play, Great city, amazing fans and always competing for titles.
Vraag: what will be your role in the team of Donar?
Antwoord: I can see my role as being a piece to the puzzle to bring another title to Groningen. Play with a lot of energy and passion
Vraag: what are your expectations for these season?
Antwoord: Expectation are to win a Championship, it will take a lot of hard work and have its ups and downs but if we stick the course we will be fine. “its not a sprint, its a marathon’!
Vraag: do you want to say something to the fans?
Antwoord: I am beyond excited to FINALLY be playing for Groningen, Cant wait to play in front of the best fans in Holland ! We will do our ALL to make you proud!
